Born Free and Equal

11 December 2008

Happy Human Rights Day!

Educate yourself about what’s happening in the world. Read a newspaper or a book. If that’s too tough, see a movie. (Here are some suggestions – Slumdog Millionaire, Call & Response, Darfur Diaries.) Visit websites like IJM, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch. Or, better yet, talk to someone who has lived through the tough times.

Treat the people around you with dignity and respect. Volunteer. Do something that helps someone, even if it’s just throwing your garbage in the bin.

And don’t call people communists just because they want to make the world a better place. Yeah, I’m looking at you, YouTube commenters.
