Plinking Now: Quintessential Roadtrip Songs
Usually, while on a road trip, my husband and I listen to books on tape from Cracker Barrel (rent at one store, return at another – yee haw!) because we don’t often agree on music. However, when I do listen to music, I must be able to sing along. So here are three (but there are so many more!) of my singable favorites:
Reminds me of road trips with my sister when we were teenagers. We’d blast the oldies station, and Elvis was our quintessential road trip companion.
My favorite band and also, very singable – “If you came to make trouble, make me a double.” Also, reminds me of my husband, who would be traveling with me, I hope.
Short Skirt Long Jacket by Cake
I was torn between this one and Stick Shifts and Safety Belts, but I think I enjoy singing this one more, especially the part about “fingernails that shine like justice.”

Plinking Now: With enough vodka tonics, I’d sing these songs at a karaoke bar
If my husband ever reads this, I’m in trouble. He’s been trying to get me to a karaoke bar for years. And now I am revealing my secrets –
First reason to sing this song – I know all the words. So that gives me more room to get my groove on. Second – I totally love that part where the song pauses and then the silence is broken by an out of the blue “BAAAABY.”
Get Up Offa That Thing by James Brown
Seriously, c’mon, it’s James Brown. Plus, using “offa” pulls me out of my English-grammarian ways and helps me loosen up. And C, groove on.
Reminds me of Saturday mornings, 1994 in New Zealand. But that’s a really long story. I’d probably need a bit of Bernie’s and some fake Bailey’s to get me up there for this, though.

Wouldn’t it be great if 15 years from now you could say “Faith by George Michael – that song reminds me of this freakin awesome Saturday night , 2009 in NZ”?
